Re-Opening Notice

History Center Reopening!

The Northeast Georgia History Center is VERY happy to announce that we’re reopening to the public on Wednesday, June 24!

When the History Center closed on March 16, none of us knew what the next few weeks would hold. We kept our VIRTUAL doors open by providing on-line history education to teachers, students, and an expanded nationwide audience. But now, with certain precautions and caveats, we’re glad to be opening our REAL doors soon!

First, the good news! We’ve changed our hours to be more accommodating to local visitors and regional tourism: your History Center is now open Wednesday-Saturday from 10 am to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

To do all we can to ensure the safety of our guests and our staff in relation to the COVID-19 health crisis during our reopening, the History Center will have the following guidelines in place until further notice:

  1. If you are exhibiting symptoms indicating you may be ill, we ask that you not enter the Museum.
  2. All visitors must wear a mask that adheres to CDC guidelines while inside the History Center; all staff will wear a mask when interacting with the public.
  3. Hand sanitizer will be placed at the front desk for visitor and staff use.
  4. Social distancing of at least six feet is expected for all visitors not part of the same family/social group.
  5. Heavy contact points (door handles, toilet facilities, etc) within the museum will be cleaned on a regular and frequent basis.
  6. Hands-on interactives and touchscreen videos will be unavailable.
  7. No more than 25 visitors will be allowed inside the History Center at any time.
  8. Rentals, group tours, and school field trips are not being scheduled for dates before August 1st.

We can’t wait to see you at the History Center! For more information, please visit our website, follow us on Facebook, email us at, call us 770-297-5900
